Sports Massage Therapy

Sports Massage is a deep form of soft tissue therapy, focusing on and supporting an athlete to achieve their optimal performance. Having said that, this it isn’t solely for athletes, anyone can benefit from the health advantages of a deeper treatment. Release muscle tension, stiffness, reduce muscle spasms and restore optimal function. Re-balance muscle function therefore improving mobility and flexibility.

Various techniques are used under the title of soft tissue therapy and can include deep tissue massage, advanced techniques such as soft tissue release (STR), neuromuscular techniques (NMT), myofascial release (MR), muscle energy techniques (MET) and positional release (PR).

Sports Massage Therapy is also to help an individual stay injury free as well as supporting them through the healing process of an injury. I can perform a range of assessments and evaluations as well as identifying common sporting injuries. I will then be able to support you with a detailed treatment plan to achieve your goals.

When do I need Sports Massage Therapy.

It is widely recommended that athletes include sports massage as a regular part of their training programme. Inclusion as part of the programme has a great effect on the performance rather than adhoc treatments.

For a non athlete it is still strongly recommended that treatments are taken on a regular basis to achieve maximum effect and to prevent reoccurrence.

How often should you have Sports Massage Therapy

Sports Massage can be used at different times for an athlete as part of your training and competition programme. Maintenance (regular treatments), before an event (pre-massage) and after an event (post).

As soft tissue therapy is appropriate for all people, the need would based on the individuals requirements. A maintenance programme will be advised by me based on my assessments.
